Hesitant Æglet Makes New Friends—Bristles at Boundaries
Sayah Surprised at Warm Welcome but Ruffled by Hunting Restrictions
"Astéri!" Nat cried, recognizing his sparky friend.
He'd met another visitor—an æglet who'd literally fallen from the Tree.
"A little scary at first," Nat warned. "Thought he was going to eat me! But he turned out friendly, maybe a little sad."
Miyam smiled gently. "Such it is with all who come. They must be drawn to the Tree, which speaks to a deep need within us all."
When Sayah emerged, Miyam greeted him warmly. "I am Miyam. Very pleased to meet you, Sayah."
Later, she explained Sanctuary's boundaries. "You're an Ægle, and your kind craves the flesh and blood of prey. There will be no further bloodshed upon this ground, however."
The æglet's pride swelled in silent retort.
No one tells an Ægle where to hunt.
Miyam fixed him with her gaze, matter-of-fact. "If you get hungry, you'll have to hunt outside the bower. Beyond the hedge."
Sayah found the prospect outlandish—prime hunting grounds, yet forbidden. He cocked a fluffy brow in inquiry.
